A Bibliometric Analysis of Hydrogen Integration in Power Systems: Global Research Trends and Future Directions
Hydrogen has become a key focus in supporting the transition to clean power systems, offering solutions for energy storage, grid stability, and renewable energy integration. This study presents a bibliometric analysis of hydrogen research related to power systems, using Scopus data from 2019 to 2024. The results show significant publication growth, with China emerging as the leading contributor, supported by strong institutional output from Xi’an Jiaotong University and Tsinghua University. Collaboration patterns indicate increasing international cooperation in hydrogen and power system research. Thematic analysis reveals a shift toward advanced topics such as hydrogen integration in microgrids, fuel cell applications, and system optimization. Keyword mapping highlights growing research on green hydrogen, energy storage, and smart grid technologies, aligning with global decarbonization and energy security goals. Conceptual analysis confirms the field's rich and complex interdisciplinary nature, linking hydrogen production technologies with power system applications. This study concludes that future research should prioritize large-scale demonstration projects, integration of hydrogen with renewable energy-based power systems, and comprehensive assessments of economic and environmental impacts to accelerate practical deployment.
