Feeding the Future: Harnessing Innovative Agricultural Technologies to Combat Climate Change, Secure Global Food Systems and Ensure Sustainable Agriculture
Food security is increasingly under threat from climate change, population growth, and resource limitations. The review explores the role of innovative agricultural technologies in addressing these challenges, with a focus on ensuring sustainable global food systems. Despite significant advancements in precision agriculture, climate-smart practices, and food systems modeling, gaps persist in integrating these technologies effectively across diverse socio-economic and geographic contexts. Issues such as unequal access, high implementation costs, and limited interdisciplinary coordination hinder progress toward comprehensive solutions. The study synthesizes current research, including case studies from regions such as South Asia, the UAE, and China, to identify critical success factors and barriers in adopting these technologies. A novel contribution lies in its multi-dimensional framework that links technological interventions with policy imperatives, sustainability goals, and climate resilience strategies. By systematically analyzing the contributions of practices such as climate-smart agriculture, aquaculture, and digital innovations like IoT in food systems, the study advances understanding of their potential to enhance food security while addressing climate risks. The review employs a rigorous analysis of 25 peer-reviewed articles published from 2024, focusing on their methodologies, outcomes, and implications. Key findings highlight the critical role of context-specific adaptations and collaborative policies in scaling sustainable practices. The study concludes that while innovative technologies can significantly enhance productivity and resilience, their success depends on inclusive governance, robust investment frameworks, and capacity-building initiatives. Implications for policymakers include the need for targeted subsidies and international cooperation to support technology adoption. Limitations of the study include the reliance on secondary data and regional biases in the literature. Future research should explore longitudinal impacts and integrate socio-economic metrics to refine predictive models and scalability strategies. The review aims to provide actionable insights for researchers and stakeholders committed to feeding a growing global population sustainably.
