Holistic Approach in Reproductive Health Education for Street Mothers in Indonesia
Street mothers in Indonesia face serious challenges in accessing reproductive health information and services due to poverty, social stigma, and low education. These barriers negatively impact their well-being and that of their children. This study aims to formulate sustainable and effective solutions for improving reproductive health education among street mothers by considering their socio-economic context. A qualitative case study approach was used, involving in-depth interviews with 14 street mothers and healthcare workers in Bandung and Karawang. The data were analysed using thematic analysis techniques. The results show that street mothers have very limited knowledge about reproductive health, mainly due to poor health literacy and restricted access to health services. Many expressed that they rely solely on personal experiences rather than accurate health information. Economic hardship, social stigma, and lack of education were identified as main obstacles. Community-based interventions, such as peer education and support programs, proved to be effective strategies in increasing health awareness. This study concludes that a holistic and community-driven approach is essential to empower street mothers and improve their reproductive health outcomes.
