How Sesame Seeds Support Healthy Bowel Movements
This study aimed to evaluate the positive effects of sesame seeds on relieving constipation in patients, focusing on improvements in bowel movements and overall comfort. This study was conducted as a comparative analysis involving two groups of patients diagnosed with chronic constipation. The experimental group was administered 500 grams of sesame seeds twice a day, while the control group received no sesame seed supplementation. Data were collected on bowel movements, discomfort after evacuation, and other relevant symptoms for comparison between the two groups. The results revealed that consuming sesame seeds mixed with sugar, at a dose of 500 grams twice a day for three weeks, significantly improved bowel evacuation. The duration of bowel emptying per week was highly significant, with the control group averaging 1.29 ± 0.488 compared to 5.14 ± 1.67 in the experimental group. Bleeding with feces was significantly reduced in the experimental group (1.14 ± 0.378) compared to the control group (1.8 ± 0.38). Additionally, there was a significant difference in the difficulty of defecation, with the control group averaging 1.86 ± 0.37 and the experimental group averaging 1.4 ± 0.4. Furthermore, all participants in the control group reported experiencing discomfort after evacuation, whereas all participants in the experimental group reported feeling comfortable. This stark contrast highlights the positive effects of sesame seeds in improving post-evacuation comfort. These findings suggest that sesame seeds could be a promising treatment for patients suffering from constipation.
