Innovative Contribution of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Industry: A Qualitative Study
The purpose of our study is to explore the novel role of artificial intelligence in the healthcare industry. This study explores AI developments in the healthcare sector using a qualitative case study and mixed-methods technique in Bangladesh and Pakistan. Key actors were categorized into academic, market, and governance spheres. Data was collected through interviews, phone interviews, and semi-structured expert interviews. Thirteen expert interviews were held, and NVivo was used to analyze interview notes. The study shows low acceptance of healthcare technology advances, with only 9% being commercially used and 73% still in the preliminary development stage. Challenges in obtaining business models lead to delays. AI healthcare technology commercialization takes longer due to data control issues. Micro- and small-sized businesses' AI advances are commercially implemented but limited. The study suggests that improving resource mobilization and search guiding could enhance the innovation system's performance. The main challenges include scarcity of resources and poor communication from healthcare practitioners. Policy interventions can strengthen system-blocking mechanisms and promote harmonization of legislation with technological advancements. A vision and mission statement can also be developed to improve healthcare with AI technology.
